Consecutive Interpreting

Consecutive interpreting, also known as CI, is when interpreters take notes and memorize while the speakers speak and then deliver the full information clearly and accurately when the speak pauses for interpretation. It is required in consecutive interpreting in conferences that the interpreters remember and make notes of a 5 to 10-minute speech and have good presentation skills while keeping all information in the original content. Comparing with simultaneous interpreting, consecutive interpreting can keep the most accuracy and all the information of the speech.
CI and SI in conferences have their own advantages and are difficult to compare, but the purpose and demand for quality are the same. A qualified conference interpreter needs to have both skills to apply to different conferences: CI is used more in relatively small-scale conferences where only two languages are used, such as diplomatic meetings, bilateral negotiation, inspection visits, small-scale consultation, press interview, judicial and quasi judicial process, banquet address, news conference and seminars that will not last for a long time.
